Bysakhi dark seedlac. The raw form of shellac — lac granules that have been screened and washed but not melted, stretched, or filtered into flake. The form a finisher reaches for when they want to control the refining themselves, or when they want to work the shellac in its closest-to-source state.

Seedlac is what the cottage producers start with before turning it into button or flake. Working with it is more involved — practitioners typically dissolve, filter, and prepare it themselves — but the reward is a shellac that has not been reduced or simplified by industrial processing.

The Bysakhi grade gives a dark seedlac with the natural color depth that comes from this particular Indian harvest. Pair with patience and a fine cloth filter.

Sourced direct from a fifth-generation refining family in India who has supplied this bench since 1990. Pure, uncut, genuine.
